Scottish Liberal Democrats have today announced that James Kenyon, a local human rights solicitor, has been selected as the party’s candidate for the Paisley constituency at the upcoming Scottish Parliament election.

James has lived in Paisley for two years and brings a career’s worth of experience fighting for justice to the race. As a solicitor, he has dedicated his professional life to giving a voice to the unheard and holding powerful institutions to account—skills he now intends to bring to Holyrood.

His selection comes at a time of heightened international and domestic tension, with the Liberal Democrats positioning themselves as the "sensible, clear-eyed" alternative to the timidity of the Labour party and the extremism of Reform UK and the Greens.

James Kenyon said:

“I am delighted to have been selected for Paisley. As a solicitor, I deal in facts, evidence, and results. Right now, our politics is sorely lacking all three.

“People across Paisley feel like things aren't working. From soaring bills to the crisis at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the SNP have failed to deliver, while Labour seems too timid to offer the bold change we actually need. Paisley deserves a representative who won't just follow a party line, but will use forensic scrutiny to fight for our local services.

“In a dangerous world—with threats to NATO, our trade, and our security—we cannot afford the politics of protest or the politics of timidity. While Reform leans into extremism and the Greens offer only protest, the Liberal Democrats are the grown-ups in the room. We have a realistic plan to fix our NHS, insulate homes to cut bills, and get Scottish education back to its best.

“Liberal Democrats are winning again across the UK because people are tired of the chaos. Paisley deserves a serious champion who will stand up to bullies abroad and failure at home. With the Scottish Liberal Democrats, you can vote for change with fairness at its heart."

James is encouraging voters to back the Liberal Democrats on both ballot papers—casting their vote for him on the constituency lilac ballot, and for the Scottish Liberal Democrats on the regional peach ballot to secure a strong liberal voice for the West of Scotland.
